Bears CB Jaylon Johnson on No. 1 pick Caleb Williams: 'He stands out'

The more time Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson spends with No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, the more impressed he is with the rookie quarterback.

During Thursday night's edition of 小蓝视频Network's The Insiders, Johnson was asked how his impression of Williams has grown after going up against the QB during spring workouts.

"I think for me, he is just different, he stands out," Johnson said. "I think his arm talent stands out. His maturity stands out. Just the way he carries himself stands out. Just the way he wants to soak up and be a sponge, I think definitely stands out. I think just a guy like him has every opportunity to come in and be cocky, be a certain way, but nah, he's humble, he's grounded, he knows the work that he's put in, he knows who he is as a man, and he just comes in and handles business. And everybody in the locker room and everybody in the building respects who he is and respects what he's been able to come in here and do. I'm just looking forward to the future."

Johnson began the offseason backing Justin Fields before relenting to the probability that the Bears would move on from the incumbent and draft Williams. He'd previously explained away comments in March that Williams -- or any rookie -- "can't bring that Hollywood stuff into the building." He cleared the air with the USC standout and has praised Williams since the draft.

Johnson's Thursday comments reiterate that any pre-draft notion that Williams was "Hollywood" or would enter Halas Hall entitled was hogwash from the start.

The next step in the process is for Williams to continue developing as a signal-caller and leader during his first training camp.

Bears rookies are slated to report for training camp on Tuesday, July 16.
